Print Requirements

Digital File Submission Guidelines

  • Please submit Macintosh-formatted media and files.
  • All digital ads are considered press-ready. Errors or changes to files following submission will incur additional charges.
  • Reader spread advertising must be supplied as single pages.
  • Ads can be emailed to adcopy@washoefamily.org with “AD” and the client name in the subject line.
  • Ads can also be submitted on CD or DVD and delivered to our office.
  • All disks should be labeled with advertiser name, insertion month and contact person/agency.
  • Please include a full-size, color-accurate hard proof with your digital files. We do not accept negative film.
  • Ads are due by 5 p.m. on the materials deadline.

General Requirements

  • Ensure that all embedded images are at least 300 dpi at 100% of final placement size.
  • Please provide CMYK images only. Do not submit files in RGB or files containing
    additional channels.
  • All fonts should be either Macintosh Postscript Type 1 or OpenType with PostScript
    outlines (.otf). No TrueType fonts.
  • Do not menu-style fonts (by selecting “italic” in the style menu). Use the font variation instead in the font menu.
  • Convert all spot/special colors to four-color process.
  • Allow for 1/8” bleed on all full-page or back-cover bleed ads. Use 12-point offsets for registration marks.
  • Run preflight software on file(s) whenever possible and provide the preflight report with all final digital files.

Native Application Files

  • PDF/X-1a or Press Quality is the preferred format for digital ad submission.
  • Adobe InDesign: Flatten any transparency and use “Package” to ensure all page elements are captured and included or export to PDF file.
  • Adobe Illustrator: Save all files in PDF or EPS format, outline fonts when possible and keep path complexity to a minimum.
  • Adobe Photoshop: Render all type, flatten all images and save in either TIFF, PDF, or EPS format at 100% of final size.
  • QuarkXpress: Export ads as either EPS or PDF files.
